The SK22 is an advanced PPE component for personnel operating in environments with dual thermal risks (flame and electric arc) and flammable atmospheres. Made with ModaFlame™ technical fiber, these socks offer inherent flame resistance that does not degrade with washing. They are a critical piece in the safety layering system, ensuring that, in the event of accidental thermal exposure, no non-flame-retardant synthetic fibers in direct contact with the skin can melt or cause severe burns.

Technical Features and Operational Capabilities

  • Flame Retardant and Antistatic Protection (EN ISO 11612 / EN 1149-5): ModaFlame™ fiber provides a permanent non-combustible barrier. Its antistatic capability is essential for dissipating electrostatic charges in ATEX zones or areas with explosion risk from sparks.
  • Thermal Homeostasis and Moisture Management: Despite its focus on safety, the fiber structure allows for controlled ventilation, facilitating the evacuation of plantar moisture. This helps keep the foot dry, reducing friction and preventing localized thermal stress.
  • Ergonomic Anti-Chafe Design: Incorporates a flat toe seam that eliminates pressure points. The elastic support band prevents slipping or wrinkling inside the safety boot, eliminating the risk of blisters and dermal injuries from mechanical friction.

Under no circumstances should conventional synthetic material socks (nylon, commercial polyester) be worn underneath these socks or in conjunction with your flame-retardant PPE; non-flame-retardant materials can melt when exposed to heat, negating the protection of the outer garment. Hygiene is mandatory: socks contaminated with hydrocarbons or grease are flammable and lose their flame protection.

Maintenance and Prevention Instructions

  • Washing: Wash at 40°C. DO NOT use fabric softeners, bleaches, or starches. These chemicals clog the fiber and can leave a flammable layer that drastically reduces flame resistance.
  • Drying: Tumble dry on low heat or air dry. Residual moisture is a vector for fungi; ensure the sock is completely dry before each shift.
  • Biological Risk Prevention: Proper hygiene at 40°C prevents the proliferation of fungi (tinea pedis). If the environment is excessively humid, change socks mid-shift to maintain skin integrity.
  • Inspection: Replace the equipment if you observe thinning of the fabric, holes, or loss of elasticity in the fit band, as this compromises both thermal safety and ergonomic comfort.
